HOW TO MAKE A GLASS PAINT LANTERN

WHAT YOU NEED:

- Glass paint

- Battery operated tea light candles

- Plastic or glass jars

- twine or string

- Plastic sheet to set the paint on

These items I purchased from Kmart but you could use any brand you like!

The jars can be glass or plastic like these candy jars. I really prefer these because they are light for students to carry and there is no risk of broken glass.

I used this twine but any twine would work.

I used a laminated sheet to set my paint onto. The paint peels off clean so there is no need to worry about the laminating being damaged.

WHAT YOU DO:

  1. Paint your designs onto the laminated sheet.

  2. Leave them to dry for a few hours or overnight is you wish.

  3. Peel the designs off from the plastic sheet,

  4. Gently place the designs onto the jar and smooth.

  5. Repeat with the remaining pictures you have created.

  6. Once finished, cut your string (approximately 20-30 cm) to make the handle.

  7. Wrap the string around the jar neck and double knot.

  8. Grab the other end of the string and double knot it to the opposite side of the string you just secured around the jar neck.

  9. Trim the excess string from where you knotted. You should now have a nice handle.

  10. Get your tea light candle and place into the jar. You can secure it with a blob of Blu-tack if you wish.

  11. Twist the jar lid on and get ready to test out your glass painted lantern.

There you have it, a cool glass painted lantern to accompany your light exploration this term. Also your student Christmas gifts to parents are covered! #jazzyideasforplay to share your lanterns, we would love to see your creations. Enjoy everyone!
